There was talk to bring Catherine Zeta Jones to be the next doctor and she's a woman. Setting all that aside would anyone like to see the doctor become female!
The Zeta-Jones stuff was all blown out of proportion. RTD was asked who he'd like as the next Doctor and he jokingly said her name. Next thing, it's all over the tabloids and his retraction a day later was buried. Still, anything for a story.
No reason why the Doc couldn't be a woman, but it'd have to be a very strong woman - a Helen Mirren a few years ago-type. Anyone but bloody Joanna Lumley really.

I would love it! She would be a weird pick, though. They'd have to pick someone who could carry the Doctor's eccentricities, and I don't think CZJ could do it. If Catherine Tate hadn't already acted Donna Noble, she would have been great.

All the incarnations of the doctor have been male but well I don't know. I would like to see a female doctor appear and become this doctor and the eleventh doctor's love interest.

it'd be weird... it would only work if they got a really spot on actress, and i think it'd be important that they had her act a little like she had been a man for a very long time

I always assumed the Doctor himself, the spirit or aura whatever you call it, was purely male. If there were to be a female doctor, I would Kate Beckinsale type or maybe Cate Blanchett. Nothing worse than a redhead who isn't even from this planet!

I honestly thought that was going to happen when I first the last episode of season 3. I had only seen the last Tom Baker story/first Peter Davidson master stories. That showed he could steal other bodies. At the end of the season three ep it looked to me that the Master had stolen his wife's body. Therefore by my thinking, if the master was a woman, the Doctor would need to become one too.
Of course that didn't happen so we still don't know for sure who it was in that scene. That being said I'd probably be ok with it. I'm not sure if I'd want it to happen or not, but if it did I'd still watch.

Are you saying you want the doctor to meet a female time lord... or you want the doctor to become a woman, go back in time and become his/her own love interest?
Anyway, I'd always thought men could only regenerate into men and women could only regenerate into women. But I don't think that has ever been directly stated on the show, and if they did make doctor 12 or 13 a woman, I wouldn't stop watching. Though she'd have to be the right actress, with 'doctor qualities'.
Besides, the doctor doesn't have to become a woman through regeneration, there's always the sex change option. Like if he was on the run and had to disguise himself... or something.

 Can that happen??
But yeah, I agree with Pesk. I would not stop watching it. It would be rather interesting. Hmm...female doctor...love that angle!

I heard there was going to be a children in need special where the Doctor gets a cold and regenrates into a woman for the day probably utter BS though
Well, it's not like the soul has a gender... So why the hell not?
Edit: With this being the Doctor's last official regeneration and all, I wouldn't be suprised if he accidentally turned into a woman whilst "cheating" the system.
