I gotta say, Smallville seems to be ressurecting itself. This season has redeemed itself from season 7 and maybe 6. Things are getting interesting again. What are your thoughts with ratings going up again!?

I don't think Smallville ever went anywhere, but it did take a few unwanted turns along the way. I think what's really exciting about this season is the direction, literally. After watching season 8 thus far...I wonder how/why lois lane wasn't appearing in more episodes earlier. She's just plain awesome (and sexy). Clark is finally starting to make decisions on his own.
I do agree with you about Smallville being "back" but I'm not sure if it's for the same reason. I will be completely honest here...but for me it's all about Lois and Clark. I remember the early days when ALL THAT I WANTED was for clark to tell Lana the truth. I wanted them to be together so bad that I literally felt Clark's pain. I'm starting to feel that again...with Lois, except this time I know it's (inevitably) for real. The steady mix of typical smallville action and the Lois/Clark stories are really exciting to watch.

I mean 'back' as in it's really exciting from week to week. Last season, I didn't really find that. I think season seven was good but a little rushed and just too much too soon. Season eight has been great and the new writers are doing so well. I just can't wait for the next episodes every week, the feeling wasn't quite as strong last season.
I just think Smallville is getting a resurection, so to speak, in that people are talking about it again and the ratings are going up. It just feels like they are getting the attention they deserve.

I loved season 6, it was my favorite. Season 7 was decent, if marred by the strike. So, I wouldnt say it is BACK. To me, it has kept my interest constantly. However, I *am* totally fired up about the focus on Metropolis and the new cast and direction!

I know what you mean but to me it's always been a good show. I do have to admit I haven't been as excited for episodes as I am now.
It does feel new again.

after the first two episodes I was very excited, Plastic was also one of the best episodes I'd seen since Justice.
Toxic, Instinct, and Committed were awful though and I thought, he we go.
But the last two episodes have been awesome.
I can't wait to see where they go with Chloiac and also I like the Davis character and am interested to see how he becomes Doomsday. Not to sure of Tess though. The actress who plays her is excellent but sometimes she can be too Lexy and Roseumbaum was just a legend. Still she's forming the Legion of Doom and that looks exciting too.
Also I think a drop in the budget has somehow been a blessing in disguise because they seem to be concentrating more on character this season that just hitting us with effects (although they have been ok, I'll admit).
Also ratings are now nearly one million up from where they were for season 7.

Speaking of Tess...I really liked her at first but am really starting to hate her. blackcelebration is exactly right about Tess being too "lex like". I underand the need for her to be evil...but it's really humorous watching Cassidy just basically stand and stare. Theres SO much more the writers could do with her angle.

smallville hasn't been this good since cyborg in season 5. all the clones fake babies, and magic crystals made seasons 7 and 6 mostly forgetable. I may be in the minority here, but i don't miss almiles one bit.

Interesting, I thought Plastique was very low point this season. And the ones you didn't like were awesome... But either way, we agree season 8 is great.
I have hardly noticed a drop in special effects, and the writing has been stellar.

Okay, I don't know what your talking about cause season 7 was great, and season 6 was freakin amazing!!!! I agree that season 8 rocks, but smallville has always been that way, it never died. (Except in season 5, in my opinion.) But the rest were radical.:D

I just need to say this because it bugs me...Some say that a season was bad as fact and I believe that Smallville wouldn't be around now if more fans felt that way. Yes, in every season there are episodes that have to be at the bottom of the list but that doesn't make the whole season bad. I think the majority of SV episodes are very good to great. Each season has a theme and maybe a certain season doesn't suit your particular tastes but please don't act like you speak for all of us in saving a season was bad.
I have the 7 seasons of SV on DVD and I have all episodes recorded this season so that is how much I love Smallville. The only other TV show I am collecting is Lois and Clark and I have to get S4 yet. I like L&C because it is Superman but it doesn't rate near as good as Smallville for my tastes.
I just want to go on record that Smallville hasn't gone anywhere as it has always been a great show. This season has proven that it is just as great as ever. As in the past, it has it's own theme since it takes place more in Metropolis giving SV a new feel to it and is getting closer to Clark's destiny. If this season is better for you than others, that is okay but don't forget that the backstory is how we got here in the first place and it has been an extradinary story of Clark Kent becoming Superman and it will never be told any better in a TV series. Of course, this is my opinion.

I think season 6 was pretty good actually. There were a couple of rather poor episodes. But also a few really spectacular ones, like arrow, crimson, promise and protoype.
There was also plenty of direction to that season. Lexana may have felt a little uncomfortable, but it gave they season a pretty solid arc. And I think the relation ship made sense in light of the the Clark-Lane-Lex triangle. Clark and Lex were eachother's mirror images, with Lana in between. Lex's fascination with Lana had been growing very gradually over the seasons and it had to end where it ended.
Season 7 did feel rather directionless. Although to be fair, there was the whole writer's strike problem.

Every statement is an opinion, and so is your whole post. Especially the thing about "a bad show wouldn't be on the air anymore". Just because a lot of people watch something doesn't mean it is good (and vice versa).

Yes, of course, everyone has their own opinion and that is why I wish they would put "In MY Opinion" in their post rather than just state that an episode or a season was bad. It just seems like they are stating it as fact when it isn't. I'm sorry if I didn't make this clear.

Awesome Post. Obviously when a new show comes on or a new music band creates their first three/four albums the quality is going to fresh, new, intriguing, and on the ball, it's all about what happens after those few initial seasons or albums that keeps the show going and whether or not the artists can match up to the juice before that. I think the more we come closer to Clark Kent actually being Superman, the more interesting the show becomes.
The show never left and for seasons 6 I think it was a little rushed and too much especially the Phantoms in season 6 but I think it set up season 7 pretty darn good. I enjoyed Season 7 - Kara, Lex coming close to the truth of Clark Kent, Clark learning more about his heritage and relatives (Blue was an awesome episode), Bizarro, Veritas.
And this season feels like 'ok we've gone through all the debri, all the mistakes and new discoveries Clark has made now let's move forward see a much more grounded Clark Kent without the distractions of Phantoms, 33.1, Relatives, Bizzaro, Lex and Lana. As I've stating before I think these episode needed to happen not for the show, but to help develop Clark Kent as Superman so when he is Superman and those challenges occur again his got the experience to face those situations without Fear.

season 6 and 7 were probably the worst in smallville, period.... i think parts of season 4 and season 5 are the best of smallville to date, though this season is getting up there.
If season 4 did away with the witch stuff, and season 5 did away with episodes after Reckoning, it would have been great... The plot line with Alicia revealing Clark's secret to Chloe, till Clark finally realized Chloe knew was great and a lot of fun to watch. Also this was the last bit of enjoyable Clana, well Lana in general. Not to mention it had a lot of mythos weaved in the archs.
season 6 and 7 were unbearable for me. So I am glad they are heading into a new direction.

The season has been getting better, but Tess should be her own character and not a Lex like fill-in (villian, get it?)

Smallville is certainly better than ever, although I'm distraught the ED is not in 4 episodes that Lana is in. It's ridiculous and seems similar to the 5 steps forward, eight steps back stuff from former seasons.

I'm with you, except that I think the show hasn't been this good since Covenant. The witch/football/fillers of season 4 just didn't work for me. Then from seasons 5-7 Clark was a moron and Chloe was his brain (which I hated). Those seasons had many soap opera like elements to them as well (especially season 6). This season is spectacular. Clark is once again a bright (smart) young hero in the making, they're doing great things with Lois, and Chloe is no longer the all-answer (instead has an actual plot that makes her interesting again). Since Prey, Jimmy has been awesome. I also love J'onn J'onzz becoming a Metropolis detective (somewhat like he became in the comics but in Chicago). Tess is also very interesting as is Davis. They're doing a nice job with all the characters this season.

The last few years it seemed like the show had lost it's way, kind of like Clark during that time.
Sure, Season 6 & 7 had its moments, but they were few and far between.
Now, they're finally taking the show (and Clark) in the right direction.
I'm more excited about the future of SV than ever before. It's been amazing and I'm sure that it can only get better! :)

Do you mean is it an excellent season thus far? Yes. Do you mean do I personally like the more Superman direction of the series as a long time Superman fan? Yes. Do you mean am I relieved that Clark is finally a grown up, since the actor playing him is in his thirties? Oh, my, yes.

The show is certenely back.I'm enjoying this season very much.Clark is finally making progress(it's great to see him embracing his destiny as a reporter/superhero).Chloe is becoming darker,Lois & Jimmy are acting like their iconic selves. The 2 villains are very intriguing and Oliver Queen is very handsome actually:)

There I said it, this show is actually getting better. I thought the first 3 seasons were awesome, then when the 4th season began I didn't like direction the show took. Yeah the 4th, 5th, and 6th seasons had some episodes that were good but overall meh. I got sick and tired of the on again off again Clark/Lana relationship. I was tired of wimpy/whiny Clark. I got confused with the Clark/Lana relationship, he was going to tell her his secret yet he doesn't, etc. Things started to change during the 7th season.
Then I heard Smallville was changing for the 8th season. I was worried because usually when the reigns are taken over by someone else the show degrades. Thankfully not this time as I am trully enjoying the direction the show is going. Wimpy/whiny Clark is gone, we're close to getting Superman. The acting is superb, they still have the great special affects, Lois has the hots for Clark, etc.
BRAVO!

Imagine how much better Lex would have been had he been around this season. IMHO, both Clark & Lex were being held back from being their true selves by Al/Miles. We saw that Clark was finally again allowed to show who he really is under PS3. I have no doubt that Lex would have done the same. Tess is at the level of evil that Lex was back in season 5 at this point. Had Lex been here, we would have seen some nasty-ass stuff being pulled off by him.
I seriously hope there's a season 9 and that Morgan Edge is brought back that season to start up Intergang.

I agree. The show has had new life breathed into it. I think the show had gotten stale because they had gotten to the point where they couldn't move the character of Clark forward anymore without bringing the show to an end. So they were left in a holding pattern. Now they are writing episodes as if this is the last season, and so he is moving forward and the show is becoming interesting again. Too bad they couldn't have ended it last year when Lex was still on the show. Oh well.

This season is rocking!!!The last time that I felt good about this show was back in season 3.After that they all mixed up the storylines, came up with the stupid witch's story to bring Lana into a storyline where she didn't belong anymore and some of her fans still don't understand why most of us don't like her after that

I have to agree that the show seems to be experiencing a creative upswing. (Because lana is gone? Because AlandMiles are gone? Because we can finally focus on villians besides Lex?)
For most of Seasons 6 and 7 I wondered whether or not to continue with the show. I kept watching it out of habit and out of loving hope that it would get better. And every time I was about to drop it something would come along to renew that hope and that love. Then he show would go down the toilet again. This season I am excited to watch the show again. I look forward to the new episodes. I am loving what I am seeing (though I do miss Rosenbaum).

My thoughts exactly, nicely put. Season 8 has been a very pleasant surprise for me so far, especially with the loss of Lex. Who would have thought before this season started that the show would be BETTER without any Luthor content? (Though I still hold out hope for a MR guest appearance...)

I know. I almost feel like a traitor for loving this season so much but honestly, taking Lex out of the equation gave the show a bit of a jump start.
