I understand that licensed music costs money, which they're in desperate need of right now, but c'mon. Just one every few episodes? I don't know where one would have fit tonight, but there have been some opportunities this season.

I thought the music played after Clark used the "statistically speaking" line at the end and during the rest of that scene was spectacularly "Supermanish" !

This is my first time posting here and I usually don't comment on episodes but I thought a nod should be made at the great music score from composer Mark Snow. I thought it was quite intense during Lois's declaration. It really captured the situation she was in. He was able to produce quite a range of musical scores from very dramatic to comical all in the same episode. I also noticed that this was one of the few episodes that wasn't dependent on a song from some artist that I never heard of but from talents of our own Smallville crew. Kinda reminds me the heyday of The X-files when music played a crucial part in it's success. I especially liked the ending where Lois and Clark are in the elevator and ended in a crescendo. It was very lovely I thought.

Finally, someone who knows and appreciates the work of Mark Snow. His arrangement in that particular scene was real good. Mark Snow is not given enough credit. His work is amazing. I also love his X-Files days. I am a big fan of Mark Snow. :D

Hate to break it to you, but Mark Snow no longer composes the music for Smallville. They had to let him go in the interest of the budget. Music editor Ernie Mannix has been using the themes composed by Mark Snow for past seasons and employing them in this season's episodes, much like Snow himself did. But I agree, the music this season has been stellar. Especially the abundant use of what I call "Smallville's Superman Theme". It's the music that played at the end of 4x22 "Commencement" when Clark threw the crystal.

MOD NOTE:I went ahead and changed the title since the music is great no matter who has been putting it together....

I think it was eas that said it, we need the soundtrack back, I have about 30 songs in my ipod that I got from Smallville, from Lifehouse, Dishwalla, Depeche Mode, 3 doors down, etc. now we only get scores, which are great, dont get me wrong but IMO we could use the pop songs apearing once in a while.

I heard two of the trombone slides that they used in "Lois and Clark" when they wanted to finish off a humorous scene. The first one was when Lois woke up on the couch the trombone slide occurred and then there was another one later on. I wonder if TPTB did that on purpose to honor the old TV show. I really don't like them but they were a bit softer in Committed.

quite a few people have brought this up in various places, Clark and Lois now have their own love theme, its a sort of mix between the movie music and an original composition.

It's most apparent in the elevator but you also hear strings of it at the end of Odyssey

that Being said, I love the fact that this show has become more cinematic, its moved away from teen drama with the use of contemporary songs, and is now big on the movie type score.

There was licensed music being played at the engagement party -- you can hear it when they cut the cake and then show Lois.

I'm really loving Louis Febre's scoring. I especially love the bells that played quite noticeably in the elevator scene. It's magical.

Perhaps I am wrong but I wonder if it is not done on purpose. I mean perhaps it will be the trademark for this season : no songs from "outside". Just music which sounds "epic", it's a new team, all the characters are on the way to the Superman myth so I will find this quite logical...
