"Velocity"'s Moneca Delain
Interview conducted by Craig Byrne - KryptonSite Webmaster - March 2004

Moneca Delain has been an accomplished musician, dancer, and actress. She appeared in the February 2004 episode "Velocity" playing a bad girl who liked to hang out with the bad boys of the drag racing circuit, being the "beautiful women" representative to keep Pete Ross in that "world."

Moneca was kind enough to do an interview for K-Site and talk about her experience in doing the show. The interview follows...

KRYPTONSITE: What was the audition process like for Smallville?

MONECA: I had auditioned for Smallville several times before for various other roles and I guess I was just destined to play Mara in the episode Velocity. So Fast & Furious! It rocked!!! I mean, how cool is that? To be the tough, ass-kicking chick who drops the flag. Not to mention, standing in between those two cars was a very exhilarating and thrilling sensation. My heart was racing, never mind the cars.

K-SITE: What was the mood like on the Smallville set?

MONECA: The mood on the Smallville set was actually very calming in comparison to other sets I've worked on. They have some of the best people in the industry working on Smallville and lets face it, it's a hit show. I'm a fan too!

K-SITE: Do you have any particular funny stories about being there?

MONECA: Actually, I do have a cute little story. You know in the beginning of the episode where Pete gets out of the car and the crowd gathers around and Jason Dante and I greet him. Well, during one take Sam couldn't hear the director yell action and everyone gathered around like they're supposed to and Sam was still sitting in the car, looking through the window mouthing things like do I get out of the car now? now? And that went on for a minute or so. I guess you had to be there for that one. But the take that did make it was the one right after that. And I think I was still giggling through it . I don't know... Check it out the next time you see the episode. It was quite funny.

K-SITE: Could the character of "Mara" come back, perhaps to tempt Pete once again? Or would you be interested in returning to Smallville in a different role?

MONECA: I would love to come back as Mara in pursuit of all the Smallville men. I think it would be fun to tempt all of them--depending on if the viewers would like to see that happen. Wink... wink...

K-SITE: Your website mentions that you're a lead in a film called "Thralls." What can
you tell us about that?

MONECA: I just finished shooting the sexy vampire film "Thralls". I play "Brigitte"--the exotic ass-kicking seductress/vampire. The movie in a nutshell: Teenaged Ashley escapes from her abusive family life and comes to the city to live with her sister who, unbeknownst to her, is one of a group of female half-vampires--"Thralls" of the title, of course--who stage large warehouse 'raves' and feed on the clientele. As our heroine discovers the horrible truth, she is enlisted to help the girls escape the clutches of their ex-master (Lorenzo Lamas) by resurrecting a powerful demon who will destroy him--and free them from their vampiric curse. The film is due later this Fall 2004.

K-SITE: What has been the most challenging experience of your career so far?

MONECA: I realized pretty fast that I'm not the "over-night sensation." I've worked hard to be where I'm at in my career and I feel like the ride has just begun.

K-SITE: You've been a dancer and a singer, as well as acted in movies, TV, and music videos. What has been your favorite experience in the entertainment industry so far?

MONECA: My favorite experience so far was making the music video for my first single "Back in the Day". It felt like all those years of training in singing/dancing/acting came into fruition so I would be ready for this amazing experience. Cris Judd played my love interest and was also the choreographer--He is a really nice person with true talent and I was very lucky to have him be a part of the video. To sum it up, I was elated by the whole thing...

K-SITE: What would your dream project be?

MONECA: I would love to get a series regular on a sitcom because I love to make people laugh and feel good. If I can do that, then I can rest my head at night.

KryptonSite would like to thank Moneca Delain for taking the time out of her schedule to do this interview. Look for more interviews here on K-Site soon!
